To participate, choose 1000 words (about four pages), from your manuscript and bring six copies—12 pt. Times New Roman, double spaced, please).

Each author will have an allotted amount of time to read and receive feedback. And if you don’t have a manuscript ready for critique, we encourage you to come anyway and offer feedback. Giving and listening can be just as valuable as receiving!

ABOUT:
A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words, BUT You Get 500

As you might be aware, the average Picture Book published these days is around 500 words. So how do you keep your words sparse yet give your story depth? It’s harder than it looks. But we have a fun exercise to inspire both writers and illustrators across all genres.

In our April LitMingle, we will present a photo or illustration and let you write the accompanying text. It’s up to you if you want to work on plot, dialogue, character, or setting. Let the image inspire you. There will be a chance to share and give feedback. Remember, there are no wrong answers.

Please bring paper, pen or pencil, and your imagination!

Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest! There are so many technological platforms to market yourself to readers, but we don’t have time for them all. This month, we will go over which social platforms seem to work best for authors and how to focus on your favorite.
