Read Like a Writer
Discussion of Printz winner, “Everything Sad is Untrue (a true story)” by Daniel Nayeri
One of the most often bits of advice given to writers at conferences is to read, read, read. They mean more than just reading for pleasure – they mean reading to learn craft. And what better way to learn craft than to read from the best. Not only did this book garner seven starred reviews, it won countless awards, including the Printz medal. Because of the younger protagonist and difficult subject matter, you might find this book in either the middle grade or YA section.
To get the most out of this discussion, it would be best to read the book. Still, don’t let that stop you from joining us. We will be talking about what to look for when reading like a writer.
Just a reminder that most libraries across Los Angeles County are open for contactless hold pick ups as well as e-book loans. If you prefer to buy a copy, it’s a great way to support local indie bookstores. A discussion guide will be available starting mid-April to those who RSVP.
